Me as a pro at downhiller this is what I am mostly going to tell you about. So here goes. A downhil bike has to have front and back suspension, mostly in the travel ranges of 15-25 cm, it is best when both suspensions have the same travel, so when you travel fast the suspensions rebound at the same time. There are different rims like the deemax, which is a stable and reliable wheel, it is also the most liked wheel in downhill racing because of its hand made hub, which has 2 ballbearing at each side. Frames: The downhillframes have to hold a tremendous weight from jumping down up to four meter jumps. A very important feature is the transmision (gears and plates)unlike mountain bikes they only have one plate at the front and no d-railor, At the back they have usually eight plates. Downhill bikes have disk brakes at both front and back, unlike normal mountain bikes these bikes are very heavy. Protections are essential for downhill racing as it gets very tough round bends and high jumps. It is compulsary to wear a hole body armour a full face helmet and gloves, you can also wear goggles but they are not essntial. Tracks The traks are normally gravel or dirt, also the race distances are between 2.5 kms and 4.4kms. The racers race these track at average speed of about 45 to 50kmph. The track is secured against any type of incident. If people are interested go to your local bike shop and ask for a racing plan and dates.
